My poor, poor neglected blog. The Soukup family is still alive and well...we are just so busy that I have not had time to get on here and update!

With the start of school, comes football and soccer. This is where I spent most of my fall, on fields. Through in a field trip to the apple orchard and the pumpkin patch and all fields had been taken care of!

Trent had an awesome football season. The Red team "Bulldogs" had a winning season. No losses what-so-ever. But tons of controversy. Luckily, when you believe in something and fight those who are charge, but shouldn't be, good things can happen! It's 2/3rd grade football, so let's keep it along those lines right?! Anyway, he has an AWESOME set of coaches who have taught him to love the game of football and given him the skills and confidence to play well. He might be the smallest kid on the team, but he has the biggest drive & heart!

Addy started Kindergarten and continued with fall soccer and dance lessons. She is a natural athlete and as well as a kind-hearted one, always cheering on and supporting her teammates.
She celebrated her 6th birthday in October with a Little Pet Shops birthday party and presents galore!

At the end of October we headed to North Carolina for my sister's wedding. Her and her husband John were married there on the Outerbanks on October 28, 2009. Addy was the flower girl and Trent was the ring "dude" and I was very proud to be her matron of honor. It was a lovely ceremony on the dunes/beach, how could it not be with the ocean as a back-drop?!

Halloween came, with Trent as Harry Potter (his current favorite book/book character...he is on the 4th book already!) and Addy went as Dorothy from the Wizard of OZ, which is one of her favorite movies. A classic, as she likes to say.

Hunting season is just wrapping up, but Russ shot a nice 8-point buck opening morning. Trent talked Russ into letting him hang the rack in his room, but we will see if that really happens or not.

I have been keeping busy at the kids school as I am the PTO co-chair for the next 2 years. Lots of running back and forth from the school, but it's fulfilling and fun work too.

Alright, the blog has been updated, and I hereby will try and make a much better effort to stay current on here!! For current pictures, please visit our family's Shutterfly site at: http://thesoukupfamily01.shutterfly.com/

Bonfires, Boating, & Back to School Shopping

We started the weekend off by going to the Rein's for a bonfire. It was hotter then hot, but hey, you gotta party with friends whenever you can! Dave even brought his TV outside for me so I could enjoy the Vikings 1st pre-game on the HD. It was a fun but late night.

After hearing that our friends Kim and LeAnna had completed their 1/2 marathon Saturday morning (Way to go girls!!), we were ready for the Helgets to come and spend the weekend! Dar and Mary had a wedding to go to in town, so Russ and I babysat while they enjoyed the wedding. The kids were so excited to have their "cousins" (2nd cousins really, but that doesn't matter to Trent and Addy) to themselves all weekend long! They swam in the pool, set up a cool train track and Star Wars battle in the basement, and played PS2. Late night for bedtime and they all slept over in Trent's room.

Sunday, Mary and I left Dar and Russ in charge and headed to the outlet to do some back to school shopping. We didn't think we would be gone for 5 hours, but yep, we were! Got some great deals and enjoyed each other's company and the fact that we did not have to do it with any of the kids around!! Meanwhile, the guys took the kids to Twin Lakes Beach & lake for some boating and beach fun. They had a great time and hated saying good-bye at the end of the weekend. But, they both fell exhausted into bed last night, so I know they wore themselves out with all the fun :)

MMM 8/3/09

Good Morning! The kids are done with swimming lessons for the summer, so I should be back to normal Monday morning postings, at least I hope :) Trent passed from Level 3 into Level 4, and Miss Addy seems to have regressed further back in Level 2. One of her instructors quit after the first 4 days, but she had already developed a bond with him, and so she then pretty much refused to float on her back unassisted and would not jump off the high dive (which she had done twice in the session before this last one)! So, she will be taking Level 2 again this winter or next spring.

We actually had a weekend where we had no concrete plans! It was sorta nice! Saturday, I had a nice honey-do list that Russ and I worked on while the kids played outside and then rejoiced when they came back in and saw we had set the basement back up. Russ is finally done with the sheet-rocking in the main room, and it's so nice to have that at least done down there. We set the PlayStation 2 back up and Trent and Addy re-discovered all the games they had on there. Russ also set our tent up in the backyard (since it hasn't been used in several years) and then the kids begged him to sleep in there Saturday night. They had a little campout in the backyard, but I stayed comfortable inside in my bed!

Sunday, we decided to pack a picnic lunch and go to Como Zoo. It was a beautiful day and we really enjoyed the zoo. The animals were pretty active and I got some good pictures. We also spent a good amount of time in the Butterfly house. They have over a 1,000 butterflies in there and many different species. Trent and Addy were amazed by them all. (See Shutterfly pics below this post)

We have a busy week planned ahead. National Night Out Festivities on Tuesday night and Wednesday night, Trent's friend Colt is coming over for his first sleepover at our house. Should be fun! We are also still anxiously awaiting for news of our nephew's birth. My step-sister is now 5 days over-due and if she doesn't have the baby today or tomorrow, then she will be induced on Wednesday, August 5th (1 day before Grandma Carly's birthday)! Wishing her good luck and can't wait to meet him!

Come On!

I just finished reading "Shanghai Girls" by Lisa See. It's a great story focusing on two Chinese sisters and their struggles in Shanghai and subsquently America from 1937-1957. Interesting storyline and history wove together.

However, if you are reading this Lisa See, you had better be finishing up the remindar of the story! How could you just leave your readers hanging like that? I want to know what happens to May, Joy, Pearl, and ZG. It is so not fair to have sucked me in like that and then just leave the story where you did. I really hope you have the sequel ready to go to the publisher!! I mean come on, that is just so mean!

Neutgens Cabin Party Vacation Weekend

We left Wednesday and returned home late Sunday night after a wonderful vacation at the Neutgens cabin. With about 40 of us all together, there was plenty to do and see and have fun. Despite the COLD weather up north. We had to have a heater going all night long in the pop-up to stay warm! But, we still managed to go fishing, have pontoon rides, played a fierce game of baseball, 4-wheel rides, firecrackers, smores, and lots of games of walkie-talkie tag and kick the can! We woke up Sunday to gorgeous blue skies and warmer weather at 7am then we had had all week long. So a few of us stayed much later then normal and enjoyed the lake. Tubing, waterskiing and more animal floaties than at a zoo! It was great. All the pictures I took of the vacation are below this post, so check them out!

The weekend was topped off by some wonderful news from Russ' youngest brother Mat. He went and popped the big question to Melinda and they are officially engaged! We are thrilled for both of them, and Trent is actually hoping to not be the ring bearer, but get to "stand in front" with Mat. I told him we will just have to wait and see.

Monday I spent doing all those things you have to do when you return from a vacation, like doing the laundry, re-stocking the fridge, doing laundry, unpacking and cleaning, and did I mention doing the laundry?! There always seems to be so much of it! The kids started swimming lessons again and they will go for the next 2 weeks. Can't believe it will be August soon and school supply shopping is right around the corner!
